About This Game A-Train 9 - Better Than EverA-Train 9 has had many major upgrades to the feature set and gameplay options over the years, with this version, Japan Rail Simulator, being the new pinnacle of the game. What Is A-Train 9?The biggest and best city builder, transport simulation game returns with a host of new features. Drive a train! Actually step inside the cab and take control. New control options. Speed restricted track ensure your trains arrive when they are supposed to Vehicle groups give you the vision you need to control up to 200 trains New track layout options. City blocks and roads that run at 45 degrees to add greater flexibility to your cities and allow more realistic city-scapes to be built. With more trains, buildings, trackside objects than ever! What’s New in A-Train 9 V4.0 : Japan Rail SimulatorThe new version of A-Train has a stack of new features that focus on the two most important aspects of gameplay: realism and control.Enhanced RealismA-Train is about creating working, profitable cities built around a strong transport network. Over the years we have seen our players create some fantastic cities, the scale and scope of which is staggering. Whether it is the painstaking re-creation of 100 km² real-life cities, or imaginative sprawling utopias, A-Train has always allowed the player to use their imagination. The latest version increases the scale and scope of the game 100%. Twice as many vehicles can be placed on landscapes with twice as many art assets. More road and track-side features with new levels of flexibility in the way that road and rail are built. The player can now use these tools to create more realistic and involved cities either from real-life or from their imagination. This extra realism is balanced by some great new control options which work at both the individual vehicle level and the management control level of the game.Become the DriverHave you ever wondered what it might be like to actually drive one of your trains? To actually experience the challenges the engineers may face in keeping to the speed limit, providing a comfortable ride, and delivering the goods and passengers on time? Well, in A-Train 9 V4 Japan Rail Simulator, it's now possible to step on the footplate and take control. Either from the first-person engineers point of view, or from a bird’s-eye 3rd person viewpoint, experience your cities like never before. It’s not just trains. Jump on board a car or boat and see your creations from whole new perspectives. Ever wondered what it would be like to be a citizen or a worker in your city? While now you can find out.Double the VehiclesDoubling the number of vehicles in the game adds a massive amount of scope and scale to the game, and that brings with it its own challenges. It might be overwhelming to have 200 trains running simultaneously. Understanding what they are all doing and how to optimize their timetables and routes with so much going on would be a challenge for anyone. Plan Your RoutesA-Train 9 V4 Japan Rail Simulator adds new features that bring you control from the transport planner level. It's now possible to sort and filter your vehicle by type and group them into color-coded teams. How you use these features is up to the player. You may want to group your trains by the routes they travel, or perhaps separate them into long distance and commuter trains. It might certainly be a good idea to colour code passenger and freight trains separately, but that choice is yours and with the filter and sort options it’s very easy to set up. The control is there, and the choices are yours. Experiment and develop your own system using the new tools provided, and then see at a glance how your network is operating. Precise Layout ControlThe new version of A-Train offers more control than ever. Track laying has been improved, trains can now have their own custom consist and speed settings, land can be raised and flattened within the game itself (at a cost). It's your world, creating the perfect rail and road transport system has never been more satisfying.Assets to Create Realistic EnvironmentsHundreds of new art assets are included in the game. From roadside elements such as post boxes and bus stands right up to suspension bridges, landmarks airports. You can now create detailed and interesting worlds alive with detail.Realistic or Model ScalingMassive areas of land to expand in to. View it all in 4K resolution (with a suitable monitor) and decide whether you want to use the new 1:1 scale modelling in the game which adds a new level of realism. Whether it's the big image or the fine details, A-Train 9 V4 Japan Rail Simulator has scale covered.Degica – Here To Support YouDegica brings a new level of support to the worldwide release of A-Train. Decided to buy it on a sale, as it most certainly is not worth its price (not even the -51% one, but wanted to try it). Sure, the graphics are not that bad (but you can't really compare them with the contemporary city builders), but it doesn't match the greatness of free games like Simutrans or Open TTD. I can't recommend it at all - not as a city builder, and not as a logistics simulator. What works... sort of1. There are quite a few types of trains to choose from, and I don't mind that most of them are Japanese. I do mind, however, that those are not timeline locked - you can buy a train from the 1990s in the 1960s and the game will neither warn you, nor stop you.2. There are quite a lot of buildings to choose from, but the selection is very poor when compared to what Cities: Skylines has to offer, especially with workshop addons.3. Timetable setting and ability to choose the lengh of traffic lights are both nice additions.4. Real estate part is pretty nice, though quite lacking. What doesn't work1. A lot of things seem counter-intuitive including how you need to use the map editor and then save it, and moreover it is extremely clunky to move the camera. I don't know, maybe it is standard in Japan but for me it was very hard to move camera around due to some very questionable design choices.2. There are no people to be seen anywhere. Even in old Simutrans you have people and AI vehicles, and the lack of those is inexcusable.3. Creating routes is a chore when compared to Simutrans, where you can do everything very simply, and you will always know why and where you are delivering something or someone.4. There are very few trucks and cargo trains (3!) to choose from. 5. AI built structures don't align with existing roads. A little thing, but ruining the immersion for me. 6. It seriously lacks the ability to tailor the game like Simutrans, where you cad adjust how economy works, how cities develop, the prices, costs, passengers and their destinations, etc. etc. 7. You are limited to the time between 1960 and the future, which is lacking when compared to Simutrans - with certain packs you can easily start in the 1700s. 8. Economy doesn't seem as inter-connected and realistic as in Simutrans where you have a lot of good types and different factories. Things are too abstracted here and you are not delivering specific items to your town, like cement or hardware, but grey containers that contain something.9. There is just one type of roads available - no highways or multiple lanes. 10. No air transport and no ships apart from leisure ones. In conclusion: if you can stand the graphics of Simutrans, try it instead, it's a much, much better game.. A train 9 is a fantastic game, don't let the price put you off as this game is so absorbing you will certainly get your money's worth. First off this game is pretty hard-core, and reading the manual is essential. It's also worth remembering that it's a Japanese game originally and therefore not aimed at the Western market so there are a few quirks which may take a while to master.Once said quirks are mastered you may actually die of starvation as the "just one more thing" mentality really bites you once you get the hang of this game. The graphics are beautiful especially when use the "train window" function or using a leisure vehicle to drive around the city. The game is incredibly deep with a multitude of side activities and all the micromanaging options that you could desire. The game is very difficult. I originally had the German version of this game and it contained a lot of translation errors and was quite buggy. I would certainly recommend getting Steam version as it is a lot more tidy. Expect to spend the first 20 hours of your playtime failing miserably. However I can recommend some Youtube videos by the likes of Colonel Failure.Don't go into this game expecting it to be like SimCity or Railway Empire. Expect a strange mash up of the two. Absolutely brilliant.. One of the best sims pierod. Very complex so the learning curve is steep, but once understood it's one of the best sims!. Is it worth the 60 bucks? Depends how you like City Building sims. If you don't, this game gets boring quick. If you do, this game has an awesome complex engine. From the economy to the stock market to setting up the traffic lights so that your buses profit more. Yes it's very complex and has a very high learning curve. Once you figure our how a city operates, it's pretty easy from there on. The attention to detail is fairly high. The goal is to profit 100 Billion dollars in a different scenerio. It can take days or even months to pass a mission or a scenerio. It's not just trains, it's mostly center around making money so that your economy survives. From under population to nuclear power, which can cost you to lose money. All has to balance out and that's something you have to figure out. The key to success for me was building the population. It is a challenge in any scenerio, but once you figure that out, it's fairly easy. The hard part for me was building the rail system. It's very complex. You can go meters in the sky or go underground, even underwater. The goal is to let the population spread out. You also don't want to overbuild because the population will get bored of your city and leave. For me it is worth the price.. unable to save progress saying disk error message. A-Train 9 V4.0 is not about instant gratification. A-Train 9 V4.0 does not care if you feel daunted or confused. A-Train 9 V4.0 has no time for such trifles as tutorials. A-Train 9 V4.0 makes actual city planners tremble and weep. And, I love it!To start, calling A-Train 9 V4.0 a mere rail simulator is like calling a pizza nothing more than a kind of bread. Oh, no no no. AT9v4 is a full on city builder! It focuses around rail transport (be it cargo or passengers). But, soon (very soon!) you will find yourself managing truck routes and distribution centers, setting up passenger bus lines, playing the stock market, and even taking a leisurely cruise around the nearest ocean bay or scenic lake on your yacht.Never before has learning to juggle been so much fun!The initial challenge is learning what menus offer which commands. And. there be menus aplenty! Some menus are quite obvious, lining the top and sides, and bottom of the game window. Other menus are only found by clicking on various vehicles, buildings, and intersections. Yes, I said intersections. Did you know you can change the stoplight settings for each individual intersection? Well, you can. Because, all those menus equal player control. And, AT9v4 seeks to give the player as much control as possible. It does take some time to get used to using all that control. Setting up train speeds and truck routes and laying out rail lines and roads and setting up factories and telling everything where to go and when can be a lot to churn through. Oh, yeah, this is all while trying to remember to buy low and sell high on the markets and make sure there are enough power stations to keep the lights on and making sure supplies are evenly distributed sufficiently so that all your cities and towns and villages and suburbs have the resources they need to go about building and whatnot.Yes, by the way, your virtural AT9v4 denizens will grab available supplies and build up the city organically and on their own, in addition to the buildings you place yourself.Does it all take time to become familiar with? Yes, quite a bit. Can it feel a bit overwhelming at first? Meh, only about as much as getting a 747 off the ground with no prior flight experience. But, once you sort it out (there are plenty of helpful videos online!), is it rewarding? Absolutely!Hands down, this is one of my favorite simulation games ever. Period. Whether I want to strive ever onward towards a grand, profitable, and aestehtically amazing metropolis, or if I just want to sit back and take a leisurely ride on one my trains watching the scenery pass by, AT9v4 pretty much does it all.PROS:- Unparalleled levels of player control.- Great attention to detail (watching the little tiny brake lights light up on the little tiny trucks always makes me smile).- Very accurate Japanese theme.- Infinitely customizable maps.- Many ways to approach and play the game (just play it in map creation mode if you don't want to worry about resources, for example).- Interconnected systems that work dynamically together (rail, road, manufacturing, etc.).- Good environmental effects.- Automatic, organic growth of population and structures.CONS:- Steep learning curve.- Will require a pretty solid PC rig to get the most out the game.- Lack of tutorials or in-depth, in-game explanations for the many features (there is an online instruction manual that will launch in your browser).. SummaryThis is the worst game of it's kind I've played in a long time. Decided to buy it on a sale, as it most certainly is not worth its price (not even the -51% one, but wanted to try it).
